Our three-year Interim Housing Strategy outlines our ambitions and priorities, and how we will focus our resources. Our vision is that all residents in Cheshire East can access affordable, appropriate and decent homes. Our Interim Housing Strategy has 5 key priorities:
- Improving access to affordable housing
- Meeting people's specialist housing needs
- Preventing homelessness and rough sleeping
- Improving housing standards
- Enabling independent living
We are responsible for providing a range of activities and services to meet housing need and provide support to Cheshire East residents. We work jointly with local organisations and residents, including:
- voluntary and community groups
- registered housing providers
- homemakers and developers
- planning agents
- private landlords and their agents
- government organisations and neighbouring councils
Common Allocation Policy
The Common Allocation Policy is the way the council and its partners allocate social housing. The central aim of the policy is to ensure that all social/ affordable housing is allocated fairly and objectively to those in the greatest housing need, having regard to any legislative requirements. The current policy is under review and will be open to public consultation between June and August 2026.
Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Strategy
The new Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Strategy 2026 – 2030 outlines clear objectives and delivery options for Cheshire East’s Housing Options Service and its partners, aimed at reducing homelessness and improving outcomes for our most vulnerable residents.
The Strategy is intended to support the delivery of the Interim Housing Strategy whilst also being flexible and responsive to changes in national and local homelessness issues.
The writing of the Strategy involved extensive consultation with partner agencies and residents in its development.
Tenancy Strategy
The Tenancy Strategy sets out our expectations for registered social landlords in relation to the type of tenancies they will grant, setting out the broad objectives, which will assist the Registered Providers to formulate their own Tenancy Management policies.
