Weather related disruption

Details of weather related disruption to council services will be listed here.

Department for Transport publish hazard summaries about the impact of the weather.

Flooding and surface water

Localised flooding can occur across areas of Cheshire East, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall when drainage systems may be under increased pressure.

At times, surface water can affect our roads and cause disruption, although it usually clears once conditions improve. Please take care when travelling.

To report any issues that present an immediate danger, call us on 0300 123 5025.

Report a flood or find advice on what to do during a flood.

Roads

To report any issues that present an immediate danger, call us on 0300 123 5025.

During periods of adverse weather we may need to rearrange planned works at short notice. This is to keep our teams safe, and to prioritise urgent weather-related issues.

Road surfaces in extreme heat

UK roads are typically designed for wet, cold and changeable weather, so they can respond differently during periods of prolonged and intense heat. When road surface temperatures get very high, it can affect some roads.

This is particularly the case where surface dressing has recently taken place. Surface dressing uses bitumen, a black binding material that holds the road together with stone on top, which can soften and rise in high temperatures.

Our highways teams monitor conditions closely, carrying out site visits across the borough and applying granite dust where needed to improve grip and stabilise surfaces.

We continue to monitor conditions and are ready to respond during periods of high temperatures, including further dusting where needed.

Schools

For the latest information regarding school closures, we recommend that you contact the school direct or visit their website. Schools may publish closure information on local radio or by text alert.
