Missed bin collections

Latest waste collection update 20/1/23:

Despite the challenging weather conditions across the borough, bin collections continued to take place this week where there was safe access.

Where challenging weather and road surfaces would compromise the safety of our employees, residents, and other road users, conditions meant we were unable to access the bins to empty them safely. In some areas, on  18 and 19 January, it was not possible to fully complete bin collection rounds due to the severe conditions. This was worse in Holmes Chapel, Congleton, Macclesfield, Bollington, Prestbury, Wilmslow and Knutsford, and we are unable to get back to make collections prior to the next scheduled collection day.

We are aware of the affected areas and we are planning to collect bagged side waste (excess waste) for Residual and Recycling collections from these properties on the next scheduled collection days, 1 and 2 February.  Any excess garden waste can be composted at home or taken your nearest HWRC. Thank you for your patience and understanding at this time.

You can report a missed bin up to two weeks after the day it should have been collected.

If our bin collection crews tried to empty your bin but couldn’t, we will give the reason why.

You will be able to submit your report if the crew have genuinely missed your bin collection.

If your bins have not been collected due to us not being able to complete a round, we will try to return as quickly as possible (this may be on a Saturday). Please leave your bin out where it is safe to do so. You can find out what to do next if we have been unable to return for your bins.

Report a missed bin collection

We cannot empty your bin if

  • your bin isn’t on the kerbside collection point by 6:30am on the day of collection
  • the bin lid cannot close
It must be closed so the collection crew can safely attach the bin onto the vehicle for emptying
  • the wrong bin was put out
You can check which bins will be emptied on which days on our bin collection calendar
  • the bin was put out on the wrong day
You can check which day your bins will be emptied on our bin collection calendar
  • the bin is too heavy
The bin and contents must not weigh more than 90kg. You can take additional waste to a Household Waste and Recycling Centre
  • there is non-recyclable waste in the recycling bin
See our page on what waste goes where
  • we cannot access your property
for example, due to road works – for this reason we will try again within 5 working days

If your bin was missed for one of these reasons we will empty your bin on the next bin collection day for that bin.

If you bin was not emptied for another reason you can report a missed bin collection.

Report a missed bin collection

If we have not been able to return for your bin

We are doing all we can – including working on Saturdays – to return to missed bin collections within 5 working days, but we cannot guarantee this will be the case.

In some circumstances, we may not be able to return to your property before your next scheduled collection day.

In this case, additional waste placed next to your black household waste bin or silver recycling bin will be collected by our crews.
