Parliamentary general election - 4 July 2024

In a General Election, you vote to elect a Member of Parliament (MP) in your area to represent you in parliament.

To be able to vote, you must apply to be on the Electoral register by midnight on Tuesday 18 June.

Registered voters can vote in person at the polling stations between 7am and 10pm on the election day - 4 July 2024.

Postal voting and proxy voting

If you would like to vote by post, you must apply by 5pm Wednesday 19 June.

If you would like to appoint a Proxy to vote on your behalf at your polling station, you must do this by Wednesday 26 June 5pm.

To change or cancel an existing postal vote or proxy arrangement you need to contact us by 5pm Wednesday 19 June.

When postal ballot packs are dispatched

The first batch of postal ballot packs will be dispatched on 19 June - this will include only permanent postal voters, or electors who applied prior to 4 June.

The second batch of postal ballot packs will be dispatched around 24 June - this will include anyone who applied after 4 June but before the deadline on 19 June, or made changes to existing postal voting arrangements.

The Privy Council approved Boundary Commission recommendations for changes to constituencies and boundaries in November 2023. The changes will come into effect for the first time in this July 2024 election.

In Cheshire East the Parliamentary constituencies are Congleton, Crewe and Nantwich, Macclesfield. 

Mid Cheshire and Chester South and Eddisbury constituencies straddle across Cheshire East and Cheshire West and Chester council boundaries. Cheshire West and Chester Council administers the elections for these constituencies.

Tatton constituency crosses 3 council boundaries; Cheshire East, Warrington, and Cheshire West and Chester councils. Cheshire East Council administer the election for Tatton constituency.
