Blue Badge scheme
Where you cannot use a Blue Badge
Loading restrictions (kerb blips)
Blue Badge holders cannot park where there is a loading restriction.
Loading restrictions are shown by markings on the edge of the pavement called kerb blips.
Single kerb blips
A single kerb blip is one short yellow line painted on the edge of the pavement (kerb).
Look for a white sign nearby. It shows the times when loading is not allowed.
You cannot park during the 'no loading' times shown on the sign

Double kerb blips
Two yellow lines on the kerb.
This means no parking at any time.

Restricted parking zones
You may also see Restricted Parking Zone signs. These show that loading (parking) restrictions apply across the whole zone, even if there are no kerb markings.
Zigzag markings
You cannot park on any type of zigzag marking.
White zigzags
Must be kept clear to protect pedestrians using a crossing.

Yellow zigzags outside schools
Must be kept clear to keep children safe when arriving and leaving school.

Yellow zigzags outside fire stations
Must be kept clear at all times so emergency vehicles can get in and out quickly.
Dropped kerbs (dropped footways)
Dropped kerbs must be kept clear at all times.
They allow:
- people using pushchairs
- wheelchair users
- people using mobility aids
- blind and visually impaired people
to cross the road safely.

Bays for specific vehicles or uses
Blue Badges cannot be used in bays that are reserved for a specific vehicle or purpose.
This includes:
- bus stops
- taxi ranks
- ambulance bays
- loading bays
These spaces can only be used by the vehicles or services shown on the signs and markings.
