Blue Badge scheme

Using a Blue Badge

A Blue Badge is issued to a person, not a vehicle. This means the badge holder may use the benefits whenever they travel as a driver or passenger, regardless of who owns the vehicle.

Using car parks in Cheshire East

If you have a valid Blue Badge, you can park for free with no time limit in any Cheshire East pay‑and‑display car park.
You must clearly display your Blue Badge at all times.

If all designated disabled bays are full, you can park in a standard bay free of charge, you must make sure your Blue Badge is still visible.

See Blue Badge parking in car parks page for more information.

Displaying your Blue Badge

Your Blue Badge has a strip along the top in yellow or black that says “Front – display this way up"
This is the side that must be visible to officers checking your badge.

Make sure:

  • the badge is placed the right way up
  • the details can be clearly read
  • no part of the badge is covered or hidden

If your badge is not displayed correctly, you may receive a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN).

Setting your Blue Badge clock (arrival time)

Some places require you to set the time you arrived when using your Blue Badge. This helps show how long you have been parked.

Yellow lines

If you park on yellow lines with your Blue Badge, you can stay for up to 3 hours.
After 3 hours, you must move your vehicle off the street for at least 1 hour before parking again.

Time‑restricted disabled bays

Some disabled parking bays have a maximum stay.
A sign will show the time limit.
You must set your arrival time when using these bays.

Car parks with time limits

Some car parks allow Blue Badge parking but still have a time limit.
Always check the sign in the car park for the terms of use.
Set your arrival time if a limit applies.

Where you can use it

In general, you can use your badge for parking:

  • on single or double yellow lines for up to 3 hours, providing all of the people in the car exit the vehicle, unless there is a ban on loading or unloading
  • at 'on-street' parking meters and pay-and-display machines for free and for as long as you need to
  • in disabled parking bays
