Reading to and with your child is the most powerful way to support their education and development. Books help children to learn to read – that much is obvious. But regular reading from a very young age also helps to develop speech and understanding of language. Books can even teach children about friendships, empathy and tolerance, as well as developing their mathematical skills and understanding of the world around them.
Bookstart is a free early reading resource which provides books to babies and some children in Cheshire East. The Bookstart Coordinator is responsible for the distribution of resources across the locality.

Cheshire East Family Hubs provide early reading advice and support to all parents and carers. Weekly groups including ‘Babies Together’ and ‘Stay and Play’ play a significant role in supporting babies, children and parents/carers to access early reading resources. Whether it’s through themed activities, songs, rhymes or storytime, children are exposed to early reading at each and every group session. In addition, each Hub has a small library from which families can borrow books free of charge.
Cheshire East is home to 15 libraries, each of which has a dedicated children’s area for you and your family to enjoy. Children of any ages can join the library free of charge which gives access to thousands of stories and informative books which can be used to support homework.
