North West Crewe Package traffic management

Road closures

As part of the works, various closures are required along the A530 Middlewich Road, Flowers Lane, Smithy Lane, and Minshull New Road to safely undertake construction activities.

Following the reopening of the A530 between Pyms Lane and Smithy Lane, the work will move to the northern roundabout between Smithy Lane and Flowers Lane signalled junction. These works will be sequenced to ensure residential, business, hospital access and commuter routes are maintained.

This second phase of the scheme requires the construction of the green coloured roundabout as shown in the image below. The link back onto Flowers Lane will be constructed later in the programme once the A530 is fully re-opened.

The works are being carried out to facilitate electrical service diversions and the construction of the roundabout. This will be managed under a 2-way signal control until mid-spring and will be followed by a full closure for approximately nine weeks.

Access to Leighton Hospital

  • For Southbound traffic (from Middlewich), access through the signalled junction at Flowers Lane either via the A530 or Flowers Lane to Smithy Lane until the full closure is implemented when access will only be available via Flowers Lane to Smithy Lane.
  • For Northbound traffic (from Nantwich), access along the A530 and Smithy Lane.

Reduced Speed Limits and Weight Limits

During the construction period, A530 Middlewich Road between Pyms Lane and Flowers Lane will have a legal order in place for a reduced 30 mph speed limit.

Smithy Lane and Minshull New Road will continue to have a legal order for a 20 mph speed limit and 7.5t weight limit.
