It is important if you’re using the internet, that you know how to stay safe, here are some key tips to help ensure online safety:
1. Create Strong Passwords
- Use a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols.
- Avoid easily guessable information like names or birthdates.
- Change your passwords regularly and don't share them with anyone.
2. Be Careful with Personal Information
- Only share personal details on secure websites (look for "https" and a padlock symbol).
- Be cautious about sharing sensitive information like your address or financial details.
3. Recognise Scams and Phishing
- Be wary of emails or messages asking for personal information or money.
- Don't click on links or download attachments from unknown senders.
- Just because someone appears to know you, it doesn't mean you know them.
- Report suspicious emails to report@phishing.gov.uk.
4. Use Security Software
- Install antivirus software to protect against viruses and malware.
- Keep your software and operating system up to date.
5. Be Mindful of What You Share
- Think before posting on social media or public platforms.
- Avoid sharing sensitive information publicly.
6. Enable Two-Factor Authentication
