What Local Councils do

Local councils, form the most local level of government and cover many rural and urban areas. They provide and/or maintain services such as allotments, burial grounds, bus shelters, open spaces and public buildings.

Local councils are elected bodies and meet regularly. To find out more about your local council and when they meet either contact the clerk using the tabs on the right of the screen or visit the relevant local council website.

More information on local councils can be found in the All About Local Councils guide (PDF, 200KB) published by the National Association of Local Councils (NALC). Further publications can be found on the NALC website.
