St John the Evangelist CE Primary School, Macclesfield - proposal to change the age range

The governors of St John the Evangelist Primary School are consulting on a proposal to lower the age range of the school. The change would be expanding the age range to go from 4-11 year olds to 2-11 year old in order to provide a nursery class and enable the creation of a foundation stage unit within the school from September 2025.

St John the Evangelist is a one-form entry primary school rated ‘Good’ by OFSTED in its last inspection in July 2023. The governors are confident a nursery class will benefit the children and families in the local community, as it will ensure the provision of high-quality, comprehensive and affordable childcare and quality education for children from 2 to 11 years old. The nursery will enable families to use their government-funded early education and childcare entitlement at one setting without top-up fees. The nursery will also offer extended hours childcare for working parents during and outside of school hours. This proposal would deliver the capacity for 26 nursery spaces in its first year for 3-4 year olds and 15 spaces for 2 year olds.

Consultation Closed - 27 February

Following a change to DfE legislation on 3 March 2025 the local authority no longer has a statutory requirement to be the decision maker on this proposal if we are only changing the age range and its related to nursery provision.

All feedback received by the deadline of 27 February will be collated and forwarded to the Governing Body at the school for them to make a decision on whether to proceed with the proposal.
