Proposed disposal of playing field land at Wilmslow High School

Cheshire East Council is consulting with the Wilmslow local community over an option which is being considered, namely the potential disposal of a parcel of land designated as playing field at Wilmslow High School. Specifically, a small parcel of tarmac within the school grounds where the school proposes to develop padel courts.

Any playing field disposal of land on a school site requires approval by the Secretary of State under Section 77 of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998. As part of the Section 77 application process the Secretary of State requires that a period of consultation is undertaken prior to any submission. The 6 week consultation period will run from 20 February 2026 till 5.00pm Friday 3 April 2026.

This consultation does not constitute a decision to dispose of any land. The Council is seeking the views of the local community on the proposed disposal of land by way of leasehold at Wilmslow High School.

The consultation only relates to views on the proposed disposal of land classed as school playing field.
