Proposed closure of Hearing Impaired (HI) resource provision at Middlewich High School
In 2023 the Council published online its updated Sufficiency statement for children and young people with special educational needs (SEN) (PDF, 1.4MB). This document highlights the specialist provision necessary within the borough and provides the evidence base for the associated plan SEN 2023-2026.
In response to the current demographics and previous yearly trends the Headteacher, Lead Teacher for the resource provision and Governors are in agreement that closure of HI provision at Middlewich High School is required.
Middlewich High School is part of The Sir John Brunner Academy Trust, a multi-academy trust located at King Edward Street, Middlewich. The school admits pupils aged 11-16 and admits up to 140 children into year 7 in the September of each year.
Currently, the school can educate a number of children with a variety of special educational needs, including 20 children within the 2 resourced provisions, this includes:
- 5 places in the HI resource provision
- 15 places in the Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) resource provision, this provision is not affected by this proposal.
Consultation closed - 7 April 2025
All the feedback was collated and reported to Middlewich High School and the trustees of The Sir John Brunner Academy Trust. The trustees will make a decision on whether to proceed with the closure of the HI resource provision.
