A50 Holmes Chapel Road, Knutsford
We are carrying out road improvement works from Seven Sisters Lane to the Over Peover Bridge (the borough boundary), in Knutsford.
What is happening
Works to deliver these essential improvement works will start on Monday 2 March 2026 and will take 9 days to complete.
The works will involve pre-patching, ahead of surface dressing works that will take place later this year. Further updates will be provided when dates are confirmed.
Our pre‑patching work involves planing the road surface around existing potholes and applying fresh material to create a smooth and even base. This not only prepares the road for surface dressing in the summer months, when the weather is typically drier and more suitable for surfacing, but also helps keep the road in a safe, usable condition in the meantime
We understand that there is no right time to work in such a key location and this scheme has been carefully planned to minimise disruption.
Road closures and diversions
Under current Health and Safety legislation and for the safety of our workforce and members of the public, it will be necessary for the road to be closed between 9am and 4pm from the junction with Seven Sisters Lane to the Over Peover Bridge (the borough boundary).
A suitable diversion route will be in place for the duration of the works. Some weekend works may be required to ensure that work is completed in line with the proposed schedule. (See map below).
We will make every effort to maintain vehicle access to properties, business, schools and nurseries within the closure. However, due to the nature of the works there may be delays in access due to ongoing plant and machinery movements.
Access for pedestrians and cyclists will be maintained, with cyclists being asked to dismount whilst make their way through the works; our Traffic Management Officers will assist you as the work progresses
Bus services will continue during the closure, however, there may be some impact to the service. Bus companies are aware and may be operating a revised route - please check their website for more information regarding route/timetable changes.
Waste collection services will not be affected.
Emergency services have been notified of the diversion route prior to the works commencing.
You can view roadworks and diversion routes on our roadworks page (opens in a new window).
