Mirrors on roads

We do not allow mirrors on the public highway. This includes mirrors put up to help vehicles exit private driveways.

If we find a mirror on the highway, we will remove it.

Why mirrors are not allowed

Although a mirror may seem helpful, it is legally classed as an obstruction on the highway. Mirrors can also distract drivers or give misleading views of traffic.

What to do if visibility from your driveway is poor

If you cannot see clearly when leaving your property, you may be able to improve visibility without using a mirror. For example, you could:

  • cut back hedges or other vegetation
  • move or lower fences or walls
  • widen your gateway, if possible

These changes can help improve sight lines while keeping the highway safe for everyone.
