We do try and minimize disruption. We do work closely with utility companies to coordinate the activities that are going on and we try and coordinate everything

to make sure that there is minimum disruption when we're doing our bit of uh road improvements as well. Sometimes though there are emergencies situations

that add [music] to that as well that were unforeseen and that can cause extra disruption but that's not planned. We do plan to keep it as minimal [music] a disruption as possible.

Two reasons why most of it happens during the summer holidays is firstly a lot of the techniques being used are weather dependent.

They need dry warm weather for the bonding to stick to the roads. Secondly, the roads are a bit quieter.

It's the time of year people mostly away on holiday and obviously when the schools break up we know there's a lot less rush hour in the morning as well.

So overall there's less disruption to people's journeys. Residents can find out about road works in several different ways.

Firstly, we will write to them if they're directly affected by the road works. Secondly, there is social media and thirdly, we will put advanced signage out on the roads themselves. Added to that, people can also look at the council's website as well and they can look at our interactive mapping tool that will show the road works that are being planned over the coming financial year.

I say I completely understand why people are frustrated by road works, but they are really a necessary evil and it's all about a little short-term pain for a lot of long-term gain. We're doing a lot of resurfacing work that will provide a much better road surface over the coming years for people.

So, all I would say is when the road works are on at the moment, plan ahead, give yourself a little bit more time for your journey, and just try and be patient because it will soon be over.
