Clean Teams
We have a number of established clean teams who come together as volunteers to clean their local areas. The teams organise their own litter picks, set their own priorities and are totally independent of the council.
These self-funded groups of volunteers are armed with safety equipment, litter picking equipment and many have their own websites and newsletters so that they can promote their activity in the local area and encourage people to highlight ‘grot-spots’.
Many of the clean teams have won awards for their work and have helped other clean teams to establish themselves too. They have moved on from litter picking and many assist with other activities such as bulb planting and painting.
Forming your own Clean Team
If you would like to form your own clean team please make contact with one of the existing teams to gain from their experiences and to find out what is involved. Further information and support can be found at Keep Britain Tidy.
Equipping your team
Along with lots of enthusiasm and a desire to keep your local area clean you will need equipment such as litter pickers, bag hoops and green bags. These can be borrowed by emailing envhubreception@cheshireeast.gov.uk or they can be purchased by your own fundraising or through grant funding.
Once you have completed your litter pick, bags of collected litter can be left beside any Cheshire East Council litter bin or dog waste bin. Our operatives will collect the bags when they next service the bin.
A few tips for you litter pick:
- plan your litter pick- so you know where you are walking
- wear High Viz vest if you have one
- only pick things up with the litter pick- not with your hands
- do not pick up hazardous items, report these items on Cheshire East Council - traCE
- don’t over pick and only fill the bag three quarters full so it isn’t too heavy for our team to load onto the collection vehicle
If there is no suitable Cheshire East Council litter bin or dog bin nearby, report the location where you have left the collected litter via traCE at Cheshire East Council - traCE and select the category "Volunteer Litter Picking Request".
When completing the "Description of Issue" field, don't include any personal information. If we need to contact you regarding your request, your contact details can be accessed securely through our back-office system, where your report information is stored. Personal contact details are not visible within traCE.
