Apply for a Cheshire East Council Driver or Passenger Assistant Badge
If you drive or assist passengers on school transport for Cheshire East Council, you must have a council-issued badge. The badge shows you have passed the necessary checks and training to keep children and young people safe.
Who needs a badge
You need a badge if you:
- drive a vehicle for school transport arranged by Cheshire East Council
- work as a passenger assistant on school transport
How to apply
Complete the application form
To save time, complete the form before your DBS appointment:
Book your DBS appointment
Book a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) appointment by calling 0300 123 5015. An advisor will take payment over the phone for the relevant application. You will then be provided with an appointment date and time at either Macclesfield Town Hall or one of the local libraries.
When attending you DBS appointment bring:
Send your documents
Whether you're applying for a new badge or renewing one send the following to the Vetting Team at: vetting@cheshireeast.gov.uk
- child safeguarding certificate dated within the last 3 years. (If you don't have one you can complete a course on the NSPCC website.)
- recent passport-sized photo
- relevant licence (for example, taxi or public service vehicle licence) if applying as a driver
- completed application form - for renewals, include your current badge number in the designated section.
The original DBS certificate must be sent by post to the following address:

Costs
- Full DBS and badge: £57
- Badge only (valid DBS): £13
- Lost badge: £10
Processing time
The badge application process takes approximately 3 to 4 weeks once we receive a complete application.
