Well done to our Cheshire East students

1 October 2020

The Sensory Inclusion Service is a specialist peripatetic team of teachers, teaching assistants and habilitation specialists. They are employed by Cheshire East Council to support sensory impaired pupils to access learning, despite additional challenges, in line with Cheshire East's commitment to equality of opportunity and improved outcomes for pupils with  SEND in education.

We would like to share just a few of the achievements made by students supported by the Service attained this year.

Charlotte Kay, a blind student and a braillist, has achieved 3 A levels at A*B B and is going to Lancaster to study English Literature. Charlotte received support from the service from diagnosis at 9 months. She had weekly visits throughout her education in mainstream schools in Cheshire East, and also received support around mobility and independent living skills.

Elizabeth Sadler, who has a severe hearing loss, achieved 3 A levels this summer at A* A B; with a distinction in her Food Science and Nutrition. She is looking forward to going to Cardiff to study Occupational Therapy. Elizabeth received support from the service throughout her education in Cheshire East schools.

Siblings Thomas and Molly Warnke, who both have profound hearing impairment and bilateral cochlear implants, have also excelled. Thomas achieved 3 A levels at A* A A and is off to Sheffield to study Mechanical and Robotic Engineering. Molly graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University this summer with a first class degree in English and Creative writing. Both students were supported by the service from diagnosis in the early years and throughout their education in Cheshire East Schools.

These are excellent outcomes for these students, and we wish them every success in the future.

‘Thank you for all your support this year, your expertise has been invaluable, and much appreciated.’  School SENCO, July 2020

‘We were very pleased and very and very proud. You have contributed significantly to this outcome and we are so grateful for all the help and support that you have provided’ Parent, June 2020
