Home to school transport

Transport options for pupils with SEND

16 June 2022

If your child has recently changed school, or is starting a new school in September, you may have questions about their transport options. If your child meets the eligibility criteria they might be able to get free travel assistance to get to and from school.

Applications for home to school travel assistance are made via your SEND key worker, and transport can usually be made available within two weeks of a successful application. If your application is declined, we will explain the reasons why, and you do have a right to appeal.

There’s lots of useful information on the process on the Cheshire East Council website. And you can contact your SEND key worker direct via SENTeamEast@cheshireeast.gov.uk

Getting comfortably and safely to and from school is vital for all pupils with SEND and the council can help you access a range of transport services to meet your child’s needs. Not everyone is eligible for free or subsidised school transport, however there may be the option to buy a paid for seat on educational travel routes with spare capacity - if no public transport services are available to you.
