Bookstart is built on a simple premise - babies who have an early introduction to books benefit in lots of ways, educationally, socially, culturally and emotionally.
Bookstart is administered by Booktrust, an independent Arts charity funded by the Arts Council England.
Your child will receive Bookstart packs at regular intervals -
Bookstart baby pack are given to babies by Health Visitors at their six week check. It is also available at Stop 5 of the Parenting Journey. If you have not received it please ask your Health Visitor. The pack is contained within a purple and yellow bag with a short handle and zip. The bag contains:
- 2 x board books
- Double sided rhyme sheet
- Reading with your Child booklet with advice and suggestions for sharing books
Bookstart Treasure for pre-school children aged 3-4 years is given to children at their nursery setting or by their childminder. The pack is contained in a blue envelope. The envelope contains:
- 1 picture book
- Share the Fun: a book of ideas
A targeted programme for children 12-24 months. It will be gifted to disadvantaged families, via Children’s Centres. Please contact your local Children’s Centre for details .
Bookstart in Libraries
The Bookstart Bear travels all over Cheshire attending Storytimes and events in libraries, look out for events near you.
You might want to join the Bookstart Bear Club (PDF 107KB) or the Bear’s Reading Adventure (PDF, 2MB), just ask in the library.
