What personal information is being processed and what for

Cheshire East Council needs to collect personal information from people taking part in the Supported Internship programme. This includes information gathered when you first join, while you are on the programme, and during any follow‑on support.

The type and amount of data collected will depend on the specific aspect of your programme. If you require any further details, please speak with your programme provider.

For individuals accessing skills or individual support programmes we may collect the following information:

  • Name (forename and surname)
  • Email Address
  • Address (including postcode)
  • Telephone number
  • Date of Birth
  • Gender or gender Identity
  • Religion
  • Ethnicity
  • National Insurance Number
  • Employment or labour market status
  • Education Background (e.g. basic skills level, highest educational attainment, last engagement in education)
  • Benefits status
  • Household situation
  • Disability status and health conditions
  • Whether you are in receipt of benefits
  • APIR scores
  • Qualifications held
  • Educational Health and Care Plan and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities needs status
  • Programme details (qualification pursued, hours of learning, start and end dates of the programme)

In some cases, we may also ask you to present documents to confirm your identity and eligibility for funding. While we may record certain details (such as unique document reference numbers), we do not retain full copies of these documents.

The information we collect is used for Cheshire East Council. We use this information to administer the Supported Internship programme which includes Supported Internships: Assess, Plan, Implement and Review and Supported Internship follow-on-support. Supported Internships APIR (Assess, Plan, Implement and Review) is a measuring tool that enables the Supported Internships programme to look at how effective Supported Internships are in terms of quality of life determinants and their wider holistic effect beyond work.

Why we are allowed to use your information

As a local authority Cheshire East Council must collect and process personal data to carry out our official duties in line with government requirements.

We process personal data under Article 6 (1)(e) of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), which allows processing that is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in the controller.

Where special category data is processed, our lawful basis is Article 9 (2)(g) of the UK GDPR. This permits processing that is necessary for reasons of substantial public interest, as defined in UK law. This is supported by Schedule 1, Part 2, paragraph 8 of the Data Protection Act 2018 (employment, social security and social protection).

Who we will share your information with

Cheshire East Council works in partnership with stakeholders and delivery Partners. This includes education providers who are responsible for collecting the information listed above and sharing it with Cheshire East Council.

We use this information to administer the Supported Internship programme including within this, Supported Internships APIR and Supported Internship follow on support. This includes sharing specified data with your Connect to Work provider – Cheshire West and Chester Council where this has been identified as a route forward for a participant.

Where we need to share your personal data with others, we will ensure data sharing complies with data protection legislation.

Where we get your information from

Your information is supplied to us from the Supported Internship education provider and through interviews/ discussions with Cheshire East Council employed staff.

How long we will keep your personal information

The Supported Internship and Supported Employment team will only keep your personal information for as long as we need it. This is up to twenty-five years, after which point the data will be deleted.

How your information is stored

All information provided to our team is kept on secure electronic systems. These are all only accessible to appropriate Cheshire East Council Officers, and secured by passwords and, where appropriate, encryption.

What happens if you don’t provide us with your information

If you decline to supply the required data, then we may not be able to provide you with Supported Internships, Supported Internships APIR, Supported Internship follow on support and, where identified as a route forward, ongoing referrals into Supported Employment programmes.

Will your information be used to make automated decisions

No.

Your rights

You have rights regarding your personal data, including withdrawing your consent where we have asked for it.
