What personal information is being processed and what for

We collect personally identifiable information to enable us to assess your eligibility for a Disabled Facilities Grant.

The information may include your name, address, telephone number, email address, date of birth, National Insurance number, details of income from employment, pensions, welfare benefits, savings and other capital for you and your partner.

Why we are allowed to use your information

The legal basis for using your personal information is because we are performing a task in the public interest.  We are undertaking our duties under the Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996.

Who we will share your information with

If we assess that you are eligible for a Disabled Facilities Grant, we will share your information with the contractor who will carry out the work in your home.

Your personal data may also be shared with other Council departments:

  • Occupational Therapy service, to verify the functional needs that should be met by the Disabled Facilities Grant
  • Cheshire Homechoice, where you have requested other accommodation
  • Benefits service, to verify your financial eligibility for a grant
  • Planning, Building Control and/or Highways, to make relevant applications on your behalf

Your personal data may also be shared with the Department of Work and Pensions, to verify your financial eligibility for a grant.

Your personal data may also be shared with your landlord or co-owner of your property, to gain consent for works to your home.

Where we get your information from

Personally identifiable information will normally come from you and the Council’s Occupational Therapy service.

Health information will normally come from the Council’s Occupational Therapy service. 

How long we will keep your personal information

We will keep your data for a maximum period of 10 years.

How your information is stored

information provided to us is kept on secure electronic systems. These are all only accessible to staff that need it, and secured by passwords and, where appropriate, encryption.

What happens if you don’t provide us with your information

We will not be able to process your grant application.

Your rights
