Knock knock...Children's information and activities

What should you do when someone knocks at the door?

If in doubt, keep them out!

When there is a knock at the door, it is important that we know how to answer the door safely. Most people are who they say they are and we have no need to worry.

But sometimes people may call at our door who want to steal our money or valuables or tell lies about work needed to the house, garden or driveway. These people are called bogus callers or rogue traders and it's important that we know how to say safe.

They use many tricks to get into people’s homes, so it is important to follow these 3 simple steps:

Locked

We should always have our front and back doors locked at all times, even when we are at home.

Look

When there is a knock at the door, check through a window or door viewer to see who it is. You should not open the door by yourself if you don’t know who the caller is, or if you can’t see them from a window or door viewer.

Get an adult

If you don’t know the person ask an adult to answer the door.
