Based in the heart of Cheshire East, Three Wrens Gin has built a strong reputation for crafting premium, small-batch spirits, combining traditional distilling methods with modern creativity. During the visit, council representatives had the opportunity to see firsthand how the business produces its award-winning gins, from carefully sourcing botanicals to the distillation and bottling process.
Showcasing local enterprise

The Made in Cheshire East initiative highlights a wide range of local businesses, from food and drink producers to advanced engineering firms. These visits help the council understand what businesses need and highlight the jobs and value they bring to the area and their contribution to the local economy.
Three Wrens Gin is a good example of a business built on skill and ambition. It operates as both a distillery and a destination quality visitor attraction, offering guided distillery tours, gin tastings, and hands on gin making experiences. Blending traditional craftsmanship with entrepreneurial ambition, the business has grown its brand since its founding in 2019 by owner and distiller Nick Wadeson, while remaining firmly committed to quality, sustainability, and local sourcing wherever possible.
Supporting Business Growth

During the visit, council spoke with the team about their growth, the pressures on smaller firms, the importance of supporting independent businesses, and the role of local partnerships in helping companies succeed. They also discussed skills, training opportunities that use the apprenticeship levy and ways to work together across the local supply chain.
Support through Rural UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) programmes have helped the business to develop and grow, demonstrating the positive impact of Cheshire East Council’s investment in rural enterprise and local supply chains. This support also plays a role in strengthening the borough’s visitor economy, with businesses such as Three Wrens Gin attracting visitors, enhancing Cheshire East’s food and drink offer, and contributing to its reputation as a destination for high-quality, locally produced experiences.
Award Winning success in Cheshire East

Three Wrens Gin has established itself as one of Cheshire East’s standout success stories in the food and drink sector. The distillery has received recognition at regional and national level, with its spirits earning awards for both quality and innovation including achieving global recognition at the World Gin Awards in 2023 for its Citrus Gin, receiving a coveted Golden Fork award at the highly respected Great Taste Awards for its Apple Crumble Gin and more locally, named as Cheshire’s Drinks Producer of the Year 2022 at the Taste Cheshire Food & Drink Awards to name a few.
These accolades reflect the team’s dedication to excellence, from refining recipes to maintaining high production standards. The business’s success not only raises the profile of Cheshire East as a hub for premium craft production but also demonstrates the potential for local enterprises to compete on a national stage.
By continuing to invest in its products and brand, Three Wrens Gin exemplifies how small businesses in Cheshire East can grow, adapt and achieve recognition in a competitive marketplace.
Sustainability at the heart of the business

Alongside this award-winning success, sustainability sits at the heart of the business. Three Wrens Gin places a strong emphasis on responsible production, including growing some of its own botanicals on-site and focusing on local sourcing where possible. This approach reduces environmental impact while strengthening connections with the local supply chain, ensuring the distillery’s growth is both economically and environmentally sustainable.
