Cheshire Green Industrial Park visit

Cheshire East Council recently visited Cheshire Green Industrial Park as part of its Made in Cheshire East initiative, to see firsthand the high-quality industrial, manufacturing, warehousing and logistics space created near Nantwich.

The park offers excellent connectivity to the M6, North Wales and key regional markets, making it an attractive location for businesses looking to invest and grow.

Developed on behalf of the Haughton Estate, Cheshire Green has been created to meet growing demand for modern employment space and has already attracted a diverse range of businesses operating across manufacturing, distribution and specialist industrial sectors.

History of the site

The site was originally RAF Calveley Airfield, constructed in 1941 during the Second World War. It was initially planned as a night fighter base to help defend major North West industrial cities such as Manchester and Liverpool, but before becoming operational its role changed and it was used primarily as a flying training station for newly qualified pilots.

After flying operations ceased in May 1945, the site briefly housed surplus aircrew before becoming a post-war flying school. From 1946 onward it was taken over by RAF Maintenance Command and used mainly for aircraft storage rather than flying. The Air Ministry sold the site in 1959, and by 1980 most of the runways had been removed. 

Supporting economic growth

Cheshire Green plays an important role in supporting economic growth across Cheshire East by providing high-quality employment land and enabling businesses to expand, relocate and invest within the borough. The development strengthens Cheshire East's position as a key location for manufacturing, logistics and industrial investment, helping to attract inward investment and create opportunities for local supply chains.

The park forms part of a wider vision to support sustainable economic growth by delivering the infrastructure and commercial space needed to accommodate future business investment and employment opportunities. 

Growth and future plans

The 100-acre business park is being delivered in phases, with the initial phase proving highly successful and attracting a range of occupiers. Phase One has created approximately 300 jobs and is now largely occupied. This success has enabled the delivery of Phase Two, unlocking a further 50 acres of development land through the completion of new road and infrastructure works.

When complete, Cheshire Green benefits from outline planning consent for up to 1.35 million square feet of employment space, providing significant opportunities for future investment, business growth and job creation across the borough. 

Job creation

The development has already contributed around 300 jobs through businesses established on the site, with the next phase expected to support further employment growth across a range of sectors, including manufacturing, engineering, warehousing and logistics.

As new businesses continue to invest at Cheshire Green, the site will create additional opportunities for local residents and strengthen Cheshire East's employment offer.
