As part of the launch of the Made in Cheshire East initiative, Cheshire East Council visited Bespak at its Holmes Chapel headquarters to celebrate a world‑first achievement in green pharmaceutical manufacturing.

Bespak is manufacturing the first low‑carbon pressurised metered dose inhaler (pMDI) approved and sold anywhere in the world. Using a new generation of low global‑warming‑potential propellants, these inhalers support the transition to more sustainable treatments for people living with asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

The visit highlighted the strength of Cheshire East’s life sciences and advanced manufacturing sector, with Bespak playing a key role in placing the borough at the forefront of sustainable healthcare innovation. Headquartered in Holmes Chapel, the company combines global impact with strong local roots, supporting high‑quality jobs, specialist careers and apprenticeships.

Bespak employs over 1,250 people across the UK, including 429 at its Holmes Chapel site, and continues to invest in innovation, skills and sustainable manufacturing. Its work aligns with Cheshire East Council’s ambitions for economic growth, carbon reduction and community impact.

In just 3 years, Bespak has transformed from being a player in the global pMDI market to leading it, driven by decisive investment at Holmes Chapel to create a world-leader in low carbon  pMDI supply, with manufacturing capacity increasing almost ten-fold.

Bespak is now developing the next phase of its expansion plan, deploying its technologies, capabilities and assets to lead the new wave of nasal drug delivery.
