Waterless Bridge Budworth Road

Waterless Bridge on Budworth Road has sustained significant damage to its south parapet and spandrel wall following a vehicle strike.

Unfortunately, for safety reasons we’ve had to fully close the road. We’re working to try to re-open this as soon as we can and appreciate the frustration this causes. Please bear with us.

Thank you for your patience while we work to make the bridge safe.

When the work is happening

Following an inspection of the bridge, we have scheduled repairs as a priority due to the closure of Pickmere Lane and its impact on the surrounding area. Work will begin on 8 December and is expected to take approximately 10 working days. Budworth Road will reopen on 19 December once the repairs are complete.

The impact has damaged and displaced the spandrel wall blocks down to the arch, leaving the fill beneath the road unsupported. Because of this, the concrete safety barriers cannot be placed close to the edge of the road and must instead be positioned along the centreline. This means there isn’t enough space to keep a live traffic lane open on the bridge. As a result, the road will remain closed until repairs are completed. Concrete barriers have been installed at the closure points for added safety.

Diversion route

There is a signed diversion in place and members of the travelling public. See the full diversion route.
