Blackden Bridge Repairs A535 Chelford Road
We will be carrying out essential drainage repairs on the A535 Chelford Road close to Blackden Bridge, near Jodrell Bank.
Two-way temporary traffic signals have been in place since December 2025 after the embankment subsided and left a void beneath the carriageway.
What is happening
Drainage repair works will be carried out between 20 March and 3 April 2026.
The works will include the following:
- Replacement of the damaged drainage system beneath the A535
- Stabilisation of the embankment where the subsidence occurred
Road closures and traffic management
To protect both our workforce and members of the public, a full road closure will be in place between 9am and 2:30pm from 20 March to 3 April, excluding weekends.
Outside of these times — including weekends — the A535 will reopen under two-way temporary traffic signals.
All traffic management will be removed once the repair works have been completed.
Access for pedestrians and cyclists will be maintained at all times. Cyclists will be asked to dismount.
Bus services will continue during the closure, however, there may be some impact to the service. Bus companies are aware and will be operating a revised route - please check their website for more information regarding timetable changes.
Waste collection will not be affected.
Emergency services are aware of the planned closures and access will be facilitated where possible. They are also aware of the diversion arrangements in place for emergency vehicles.
The diversion route is displayed below:
