Bickerton Road, Malpas – Culvert reconstruction

Due to ongoing structural deterioration, the south end of Mossmere culvert has collapsed.

What is happening

We began reconstruction of the collapsed section of the culvert on the 15 August 2025. The road reopened on Friday 10 October. 

As part of the scheme, we undertook the following works:

• Cleared vegetation from the surrounding area
• Installed access scaffolding
• Removed the collapsed section of the culvert
• Constructed new foundations
• Rebuilt the brick arch and headwall
• Installed a new parapet
• Desilted the watercourse
• Completed minor resurfacing works

Under current Health and Safety legislation and for the safety of our workforce and members of the public, it was necessary for a road closure to be in place for the duration of the scheme.
