Bickerton Road, Malpas – Culvert reconstruction
Due to ongoing structural deterioration, the south end of Mossmere culvert has collapsed.
Temporary two-way traffic signals are currently in place and will remain in place until the work is complete. For your safety and the safety of others, please do not move or tamper with the signals.
What is happening
We began reconstruction of the collapsed section of the culvert on the 15 August 2025. Works are well underway and are expected to last approximately 7 weeks.
As part of the scheme, we’re undertaking the following works:
- Clearing vegetation from the surrounding area
- Installing access scaffolding
- Removing the collapsed section of the culvert
- Constructing new foundations
- Rebuilding the brick arch and headwall
- Installing a new parapet
- Desilting the watercourse
- Completing minor resurfacing works
The repairs to the brick arch culvert are well underway. The old damaged brick arch has now been removed and new foundation/base constructed along with the start of the rebuilding of the culvert.
Under current Health and Safety legislation and for the safety of our workforce and members of the public, it is necessary for a road closure to be in place for the duration of the scheme.
Diversion route
There is a signed diversion in place and members of the travelling public, including cyclists are advised to follow this. See the full diversion route.
