A5033 Northwich Road, Knutsford
We will be carrying out works to install a new Puffin pedestrian crossing on the A5033 Northwich Road, Knutsford to improve road safety.
What is happening
Work starts on 12 January 2026 and will take about 3 weeks to complete.
The following works will be taking place:
- installation of a new Puffin pedestrian crossing
- widening of the current footway
- carriageway resurfacing
- reinstatement of the road markings
We understand that there is no right time to work in such a key location and this scheme has been carefully planned to minimise disruption.
Road closures and diversions
Under current Health and Safety legislation and for the safety of our workforce and members of the public, it will be necessary for the following traffic management will be in place on Northwich Road between Acacia Avenue and Lilac Avenue:
- Monday 12 January 2026 to Wednesday 21 January 2026 - Temporary two-way traffic signals
- Thursday 22, Friday 23 and Monday 26 January 2026 - A full road closure for 3 days
- Tuesday 27 January 2026 to Friday 30 January 2026 - Temporary two-way traffic signals
Due to the nature of the works being carried out, access to Acacia Avenue from Northwich Road will be closed for the duration of the works. A clearly signed diversion route will be in place. Whilst the lights and closures will be in position 24/7, we will be working mainly between 8am and 5pm, with occasional weekend working if needed. Pedestrian and cyclist access will be maintained, although cyclists may be asked to dismount through the works.
Further information
- Local businesses will remain open and access will be facilitated.
- Diversion routes will be signed to assist in the movement of traffic whilst the works are in progress.
- On site personnel will be on hand to provide help and advice to members of the public for the duration of the scheme and are the best way to find out more information about these works.
- Delays are expected and motorists should plan journeys accordingly. You can view diversion routes and roadworks on our Roadworks Map.
- Signage will be out in advance of the works starting, and will be located at key points on the road.
