How we deliver social value as an employer

Cheshire East Council employs over 5,000 people. We have a responsibility to recruitment and manage staff in a way that delivers social value  across the borough.

This means treating people fairly, providing opportunities for training and development, and looking after staff health and wellbeing.

Employment opportunities

We are working to become more inclusive and to make sure people from groups currently under-represented are able to join us and build careers with us. This includes taking part in schemes such as the 2021/2022 national Kick Start scheme (11 places taken up).

To support disadvantaged people and people with disabilities, we are building a programme of supported internships and work experience placements.

We are also providing training for managers to help them recruit and support people from under-represented groups.

Guaranteed interviews

We guarantee an interview for the following groups of people, where they meet the essential criteria in the relevant job specification.

  • forces veterans
  • people with disabilities

Staff support

Our vision sets out how we work together with staff.

To support health and wellbeing, we have trained 65 in-house Mental Health First Aiders, run an Employee Assistance programme offering confidential advice and support 24/7, and provide a wide variety of occupational health services.

Time off for volunteering

Every member of staff can take 2 days paid leave each year to volunteer in Cheshire East.

Our social value impact as an employer

We are starting to track our social value impact as an employer so we can see what works well. We will add further information here as it becomes available.
