VJ Day (Victory in Japan) - 80th Anniversary Celebrations in Cheshire East

15 August 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of VJ Day, a moment to reflect on the end of World War II and honour the Second World War generation across the UK and Commonwealth.

Join us in commemorating the 80th anniversary of VJ Day with a series of special events across Cheshire East. Share your events and support using hashtags #CelebratingCheshireEastVJDay across your social media platforms! 

There will also be a national two-minute silence at 12 noon.

Crewe

• Join the VJ 80 Day memorial for Burma on Friday 15 August at at Queens Park in Crewe. In attendance will the mayors for Cheshire East and Crewe, as well as the Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire, Lady Redmond MBE. 4
  Location: Burma Star Island, Queens Park.
  Day and Time: Friday, 15 August 2025, 10:30am - If attending, please arrive fifteen minutes early at 10.15am.

Nantwich

• Nantwich Museum is planning an exhibition to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VJ Day on 15 August.
  Location: Nantwich Musuem, Pillory St, Nantwich, CW5 5BQ
  Day and Time: Friday 15 August 2025, 10am. 

Poynton

• Join Poynton Royal British Legion to mark 80 years since Victory in Japan Day. The evening will feature a beacon lighting ceremony and speech from the Mayor of Poynton.
