Wilmslow Festival of Writing 2026

Wilmslow Festival of Writing 2026

Project overview

The Wilmslow Festival of Writing 2026 is a premier community event dedicated to celebrating storytelling, creativity, and the written word. Hosted by the Guild for Lifelong Learning on July 4, 2026, the festival brings together local authors, aspiring writers, and book lovers for a day of workshops, author talks, and interactive performances. To ensure a seamless experience for our attendees and guests, we are seeking a dedicated team of volunteers. Key roles include Stewards and Front of House personnel to provide a warm welcome and assist with wayfinding, as well as Exhibitor Support volunteers. These individuals will serve as the primary point of contact for our guest speakers and stallholders, ensuring they have the resources and support needed to showcase their work effectively throughout the day. Our goal is to create a vibrant, inclusive environment that inspires the Wilmslow community through literature. This is a great opportunity to meet fellow book-lovers, chat with local authors, and support the Guild in bringing this special event to Wilmslow. You'll be part of a friendly, social team, and we'll make sure you're well-supported throughout the day. Whether you're a lifelong reader or just enjoy helping out in the community, it's a rewarding way to spend a summer Saturday and help make our local arts scene thrive. We offer flexible hours to suit your schedule, and tea and coffee will be available throughout the day to keep you refreshed.

What support is needed

We are seeking friendly, reliable volunteers to help our festival run smoothly. Our Stewards and Front of House team will provide a warm "meet and greet" service, helping visitors find their way and ensuring a welcoming atmosphere from the moment they arrive. Additionally, our Exhibitor Support volunteers will act as dedicated points of contact for our guest authors and stallholders, checking in on them throughout the day to ensure they have everything they need.

What difference would it make to our project?

The Wilmslow Festival of Writing directly supports the Guild's core mission of improving community wellbeing and reducing social isolation through the power of education and the arts. By providing a vibrant, accessible space for local writers, learners, and residents to connect, the festival celebrates the creativity within our town. It encourages "active citizenship" by inviting the community to engage with literature and with one another, helping to break down barriers and create meaningful social connections. Ultimately, the festival acts as a catalyst for lifelong learning, inspiring participants to explore new skills, share their stories, and strengthen the social fabric of Wilmslow
