Equality and Inclusion in Schools
Schools are and should be places that promote values of justice and fairness in young people for life. They can also address inequalities and through high expectations and targeted high quality teaching, improve the life chances of children and young people who have experienced disadvantage.
Equality Toolkit for Schools
To assist schools with their equality duties Cheshire East Council has developed a toolkit which includes the following:
- Equality legislation – Guidance on the Equality Act 2010 with links to additional support and guidance;
- Statutory duties – Details of the compulsory public sector duties placed on schools within the Equality Act 2010
- Self-Evaluation Resource – Practical support and guidance to take schools through the types of policies and practice they currently have in place and to help identify gaps and equality objectives for action.
The toolkit provides a practical guide to equality legislation, the statutory duties, and to the good practice which is intended to help schools be compliant and have a positive effect on equality and diversity across the whole school community.
