Government approves our plan to transform SEND provision in Cheshire East
We are pleased to share that the government has approved Cheshire East’s ambitious plan to improve support for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
This is an important milestone for families across Cheshire East and recognises the significant progress that has already been made by local partners. The approved plan sets out how education, health and care services will work together to create a more responsive, inclusive and sustainable SEND system that better meets the needs of children, young people and their families.
The programme of improvements focuses on identifying and responding to needs earlier, strengthening support in mainstream settings and increasing the availability of specialist provision within Cheshire East. This will help more children and young people access the right support at the right time, in the right place, and as close to home as possible.
The plan also aims to improve families' experiences of SEND services by ensuring support is joined up across organisations, making it easier for parents and carers to access help and navigate services.
While there is still more work to do, government approval is a significant step forward and provides a clear roadmap for delivering long-term improvements. Cheshire East Council and partners remain committed to working closely with children, young people, parents, carers and schools as this transformation programme continues.
We will keep you updated on this work over the coming week and months.
