Footway Programme 2026

Our footways are an important part of the highway network, providing safe links to homes, schools, shops, public transport and local services. 

What is happening

We will be replacing damaged paving flags with a smooth, flexible surface to create a safer, more accessible footway. By recycling the existing paving flags and reusing them as a base layer, we will reduce waste and deliver a 35% carbon saving compared with traditional reconstruction methods.

As part of the improvements, new kerbs and tactile paving will be installed to help improve accessibility for people with visual impairments.

Roads included in the programme

The roads listed below have been identified as part of our Footway improvement programme for 2026-27. (All dates are weather dependent and subject to change).

Changes to dates

The dates for these works may change and we may not be able to give you an exact date. This means works may be delayed or moved at short notice.

Signs will be placed on site to tell you:

• when the road will be closed
• the dates and times of the works
• how long the works are expected to last

Parking during the works

Footway improvement works cannot be carried out if vehicles are parked on the road.

Make sure:

• your vehicle is moved before the works start
• visitors do not park on the road
• if you are going away during the period of the works, please arrange for your vehicle to be moved from the road

Letters to residents and businesses

We will send a letter to all affected properties before the works begin.

Please note:

• the letter does not allow access through the road closure
• access may be restricted for safety reasons

If you have special access needs, please speak to the site supervisor as soon as possible.

Local businesses will remain open as normal. Access will be provided where it is safe to do so, or via diversion routes.

Road closures and diversion routes

Road closures are needed to keep both the public and our workforce safe.

Bus companies are aware of the works. Services may run on different routes or timetables, so please check the operator’s website.

Waste collection services will not be affected.

• Do not park vehicles in the works area
