What is happening
Works will be carried out in two phases:
Phase 1 – VRS Barrier Replacement Works, A500 Newcastle Road, between M6 Junction 16 and Roundabout 1
- Monday 27 July 2026 - Saturday 1 August 2026 between 10:00pm and 5:30am
The works will be carried out overnight to minimise disruption to daytime traffic and help keep the route open during peak travel periods.

- Monday 3 August to Friday 7 August 2026 between 9:30am to 3:30pm

Traffic management in place
Under current Health and Safety legislation and for the safety of our workforce and members of the public, it will be necessary for the a full road closure to be in place for phase 1 of the works.
A suitable diversion route will be in place for the duration of the works. Some weekend works may be required to ensure that work is completed in line with the proposed schedule.
During phase 2 of the works, lane closures will be in operation.
You can view roadworks and diversion routes on our roadworks page.
