Date set for by-election in Cheshire East Council seat

21 December 2023

A by-election for the Crewe Central ward of Cheshire East Council is set to be held on 8 February 2024.

The poll will take place following the standing down of ward Councillor Anthony Critchley, provided the seat is contested by more than one candidate.

The notice of election will be formally published on 4 January 2024 and the council can receive nominations from candidates from that date. The deadline for candidates who wish to stand in the election is 4pm on Friday 12 January 2024

Nomination papers are available from Cheshire East’s elections team on 01270 685922 and these can be sent to potential candidates electronically, or as a paper copy, if necessary. Further information about standing as a candidate, along with nomination papers to stand in a borough council (local government) election, can also be downloaded from the Electoral Commission website.
Please note that Cheshire East Council Offices are closed from Friday 22 December and will reopen on Tuesday 2 January.

Nomination papers must be hand delivered to:

The Returning Officer

Elections Office

Macclesfield Town Hall

Market Place

Cheshire SK10 1EA.

Nominations may be delivered on any day (excluding weekends and bank holidays), between 10am and 4pm from 4 January – but not later than 4pm on 12 January. Please either phone the elections team on 01270 685922 or email electoral.information@cheshireeast.gov.uk  to make an appointment to deliver your nomination paper.

If, as is expected, the election is contested by rival candidates, the poll will take place on Thursday 8 February 2024 between 7am and 10pm.
