Cheshire East Council has celebrated the success of an award‑winning local distillery as part of its new ‘Made in Cheshire East’ initiative, which shines a spotlight on businesses driving innovation, sustainability and economic growth across the borough.

Councillors recently visited Three Wrens Gin, a family‑run distillery based in Combermere in rural Cheshire, to recognise its international success and strong commitment to responsible, low‑impact production.

Founded in 2019 by founder, owner and master distiller Nick Wadeson, Three Wrens has quickly built a global reputation for distinctive, small‑batch spirits made using traditional copper‑pot distilling alongside modern techniques. The business has won multiple international gold medals, including the prestigious Golden Fork Award from the Guild of Fine Food.

Mannion-Nick-223x280Councillor Nick Mannion, leader of Cheshire East Council, said: “Three Wrens is a great example of the creativity and ambition that Made in Cheshire East is designed to celebrate.

“From a rural Cheshire base, they are producing world‑class spirits while creating jobs, attracting visitors and contributing positively to the local economy.”

Sustainability sits at the heart of the business, with initiatives including a refill scheme to reduce glass waste, on‑site growing of herbs and botanicals, a zero‑waste approach to cocktails, and reduced transport emissions through bulk supply to trade partners.

Gorman-Michael-223x280Councillor Michael Gorman, deputy leader of Cheshire East Council, said: “What really stands out about Three Wrens is how sustainability is woven into every part of their business, not treated as an afterthought.

“That combination of environmental responsibility, craftsmanship and innovation is exactly what we want to champion through Made in Cheshire East, and it shows how local businesses can lead the way to a greener future.”

Nick Wadeson said: “We’re absolutely delighted to be part of Cheshire East Council’s ‘Made in Cheshire East’ initiative. It’s a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase Three Wrens Gin and we have always been incredibly proud to represent Cheshire East as our home since we launched in 2019.

“The council has been a great source of support throughout our journey, and we’re excited to continue growing with their backing.”

The visit forms part of a wider programme of Made in Cheshire East business engagements showcasing the people, skills and enterprises powering Cheshire East’s economy and reinforcing the borough’s reputation as a great place to start, grow and sustain a business.
