Cheshire East students celebrate GCSE success as results show continued strong performance

20 August 2026

Students across Cheshire East are celebrating today (August 20) as they receive their GCSE and vocational qualification results, marking the culmination of years of hard work, dedication and perseverance.

Provisional figures show that 66 per cent of pupils achieved a standard pass (grade 4 or above) in GCSE English and maths combined.

Overall results for pupils who studied vocational technical qualifications (VTQs) will be available in the autumn.

Councillor Emma Gilman, cabinet member for education and SEND at Cheshire East Council, said: "Today is a day for celebration and I am delighted to congratulate the many young people across Cheshire East on their achievements.

"Behind every result is a huge amount of hard work, determination and resilience, and our students should be incredibly proud of what they have accomplished. I would also like to thank parents, carers, teachers and school staff for the vital encouragement and support they have provided throughout the year.

"It is particularly pleasing to see another year of strong performance by our schools and young people, reflecting the commitment and talent we have across Cheshire East.

“As a corporate parent, I’m also pleased to see many of our cared for children reaching this milestone, and for those who may not have received the results they hoped for, I want to reassure them that there are many pathways to success.

“Together with our schools and partners, we are here to help every young person take the next step, whether that is further education, a sixth form, college, an apprenticeship, training or employment."

Schools across Cheshire East are offering support and advice to students on their next steps following the publication of results.

Young people can also access support from the council's Youth Support Service by visiting www.cheshireeast.gov.uk and searching for 'youth support'.

local support for mental health and wellbeing is also available through the Cheshire East Council website.
