Cheshire East launches consultation on its draft EDI strategy

Cheshire East Council wants your views on its equality, diversity and inclusion strategy.
A public consultation, launched on Monday 23 June will run for four weeks.
The strategy outlines the council’s equality objectives for 2025-29 and how it plans to achieve these objectives. This builds on work the authority committed to in its Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Strategy 2021-25.
The council’s vision, as outlined in the Cheshire East Plan 2025-29, is enabling prosperity and wellbeing for all in Cheshire East. The authority is committed to being an enabling council, building strong partnerships, unlocking the health and economic potential of the borough and ensuring wellbeing for all adults, families and children.
This means that all who live, work and visit Cheshire East feel included and valued, we celebrate each other’s differences and we respect one another.
Cheshire East Council assistant chief executive Dami Awobajo said: “This strategy is crucial for embedding a culture of inclusion, diversity and equality within Cheshire East – so that it is firmly rooted in everything we do.
“We have been listening to residents and know that equality, diversity and inclusion issues are important to people and we want to hear their views – which are important to us.
“So, I would urge people to take just a few minutes of their time to complete the consultation questionnaire and have their say. The views we receive will be considered fully and help shape the development of the strategy, its objectives and how it’s delivered.”
The objectives for Cheshire East Council identified in the draft strategy include:
- An inclusive and diverse workforce;
- Accessible council services;
- Community engagement;
- Advancing equity of opportunity; and
- Eliminating discrimination.
Councillor Emma Hall, Cheshire East Council’s diversity champion, said: “We want to hear residents’ views to help enable us to get this strategy right.
“The council is committed to fostering inclusivity, advocating for fairness and ensuring that every voice is heard. Together, we will work towards building a more equitable and diverse community for all residents.”
