Cheshire East Council launches transport plan consultation

Cheshire East Council launched a second round of consultation on its updated transport plan today – a strategy to ensure the transport network in the borough is fit for the future.
The strategy shows how the council would prioritise and deliver transport improvements across the borough – it’s known as the Local Transport Plan. Feedback is now sought from the public on the updated plan.
Earlier this year, the council invited residents, businesses and stakeholders to comment on its vision and four aims for transport in the borough, which are: growing the economy, improving the health and wellbeing of our community, reducing environmental impacts and improving connections for all.
With that feedback, the council has now developed a strategy and investment framework as a way to prioritise transport improvements in future years.

or Mark Goldsmith, chair of Cheshire East Council’s highways and transport committee, said: “Since our last Local Transport Plan (LTP) was adopted in 2019, the way people move around has changed significantly. New challenges have emerged but so have new opportunities. That’s why we’ve developed a new LTP strategy and investment framework, to ensure our transport policies remain robust, relevant, and responsive to the needs of our residents.
“In terms of the timing of the work on our LTP – it could not be better. The recent confirmation that we will now establish a combined authority across Cheshire and Warrington enables us to ensure that our plan feeds into our broader ambitions for the region.
“This new strategy seeks to improve travel choices, which we know can help to support economic growth, tackle health inequalities and reduce environmental impacts.
“Our vision sets out how we will meet these challenges head on by investing in better connections, supporting active travel, enhancing public transport and making our transport system more accessible.”

We encourage you to take part in this consultation and help us deliver a transport system that reflects the ambitions and needs of our communities – both now and for the future.”
All future transport projects will need to align with the outcomes of the Local Transport Plan. When the consultation closes in December, the strategy will then be finalised before being adopted in 2026.
The eight-week consultation started today and will run to Sunday 7 December. Take part in the consultation.
