Case study - Work Experience July 2025
I am a year 12 student who has completed my work experience with the Cheshire East Council web team.
Monday
On Monday, I worked with Digital Cheshire, completing tasks related to marketing, research, and communication. For example, I researched the PSTN switchover, and wrote an email as if I were responding to someone concerned about the effects the switchover might have on them.
Tuesday
On Tuesday, I began to work with the Cheshire East Council web team. I was shown how to edit the website, and updated page owners and review dates.
After this, I was shown how to use Silktide. This allowed me to see where changes that needed to be made to the website, and I learned about web accessibility. After this, I was able to fix some errors on the website, such as repeated words.
Wednesday
On Wednesday, I worked with the web team again. I made improvements to the Play areas page by splitting the accordions up so that there was one per town and ordering them alphabetically. I also worked on standardising the way times were written across several pages, and checking that links led to the right pages.
Thursday
On Thursday, I learnt more about web accessibility and AI. I was shown how AI is used within Cheshire East Council to help with things like keeping pages concise and making sure new pages meet the Council's standards.
Friday
On Friday, I checked the Council's Google Business listings to make sure that they were accurate and up-to-date where possible. Additionally, I added the page for The micro surfacing programme and copied out the HTML and CSS style guides.
