My Work Experience Journey

I am Hamid, year 1 level 3 student from South Cheshire College. I have completed 12 days’ worth of work experience at Cheshire East Council on Web team.

I started out with one day a week over six weeks work experience placement. I was happy when they asked me to stay for another six weeks. So, I ended up staying for twelve weeks. During this time, I got to do lots of things and I learned a lot. I also got to work with a nice team.

From the first week everyone in the office was really friendly. They would always say hello. They were always willing to help me. This made me feel comfortable. It gave me the confidence to do my best.

Each day I would start by saying hello to the team and checking what work needed to be done. During my placement I did a lot of work on the website. This included updating pages adding new content and getting rid of old information. I also got to work on Google Business listings and make sure that all the information was correct.

One thing I really enjoyed was working with a spreadsheet. It had lots of website links and contact information. Some of the contacts were missing. I had to find them. It was like being a detective. I had to search for the people and find their email addresses. This was a good challenge, and it helped me get better at researching and paying attention to details.

I also got to look at how many people visited each page on the website. I made a list of the pages. How popular they were. Then I used this information to help make the website better. I did this for a few types of pages. It was interesting. It helped me understand how to make things easier for people to find.

Whenever I finished tasks I would ask Nickki or Mark if they needed help with anything. They always gave me something to do. Steve also gave me some interesting tasks when he was in the office. Lots of people helped me during my placement. I am really grateful for their support.

I really appreciated the help I got from Nickki. She always encouraged me to ask questions. She helped me feel more confident when talking to the team. She taught me that it is okay to ask for help and that it is a part of learning. This really helped me. Now I feel much more comfortable working with other people.

Mark also helped me a lot. He taught me about web development. He showed me some really useful resources. He helped me learn more about technologies and how to manage websites.

Over the twelve weeks I got a lot better at communicating with people paying attention to details and working on my own. I learned how important it is to have information and how digital services can help people. I also learned about the importance of working as a team and keeping an open mind.

Overall my work experience placement was really enjoyable and rewarding. I got to do lots of tasks and I learned a lot from the people I worked with. I am really grateful to everyone who helped me. I am glad I got to be part of such a nice team. This experience has made me more interested, in work and it has given me the skills and confidence I need to keep going.
