Brook Lane Bridge, Alderley Edge

What we're doing

Brookfield Bridge carries Brook Lane (B5085) over Whitehall Brook in Alderley Edge and, as part of our planned maintenance programme, bridge lining works are due to start in late Autumn 2026.

The works will involve installing a lining within the existing bridge arch to strengthen the bridge and ensure it continues to meet current standards.

For safety reasons we have installed temporary two-way traffic lights to remove vehicle loading from the edge of the carriageway, until the work is completed.  We have also installed "Unsuitable for HGVs" signs to discourage heavy goods vehicles from using this route. Local businesses have been asked to advise suppliers who use HGVs to use an alternative route.

We will be increasing the frequency of the bridge inspections before the works starting to ensure the bridge can continue to be used by local traffic.

What's happening next?

The scheme to line the bridge is due to start in late Autumn 2026. We will continue to monitor the bridge and keep the temporary traffic management measures in place.

During the works, most of the activity will take place beneath the bridge, so there will be limited view of the works taking place from the road above.
