Flag Lane, Crewe
We will be carrying out resurfacing works on Flag Lane from its junction with Alton Street to the junction with Richard Moon Street.
When is it happening
The works will start on Monday 2 November until Friday 6 November 2026 between 9:30am and 2:30pm
The process involves removing the worn surface, repairing any defects and laying new asphalt to create a smooth, long-lasting finish, and reinstating the road markings. Resurfacing helps extend the life of the road, improves skid resistance, and reduces the need for future maintenance.
Local businesses will remain open during the resurfacing works with pedestrian access to businesses will be maintained
We understand there is no right time to undertake these types of works, but they have been planned to minimise disruption to residents and businesses.
Letters to residents and businesses
We will be sending out a letter to all affected properties before the works begin.
It is important to know that:
- the letter does not allow access through the road closure
- access may be restricted for safety reasons
If you have special access needs, speak to the site supervisor as soon as possible.
Access will be provided where it is safe to do so, or via diversion routes.
Changes to dates
The dates for these works may change and we may not be able to give you an exact date. This means works may be delayed or moved at short notice.
If we do have to change the dates of the works signs will be placed on site to tell you:
- when the road will be closed
- the dates and times of the works
- how long the works are expected to last
Road closures and diversion routes
We need to close roads to keep both the public and our workforce safe. During the works:
Bus companies are aware of the works. Services may run on different routes or timetables, please check the operator’s website.
Waste collection services will not be affected and are liaising with the waste management team to ensure waste collections are carried out.

- Please ensure vehicles are removed from the area of the works
- The road closures and traffic management are necessary to protect the safety of both members of the public and our workforce.
- Diversion routes will be signed to assist in the movement of traffic while works progress.
- Local businesses remain open and access will be facilitated where possible.
- On site personnel will be on hand to provide help and advice to members of the public for the duration of the scheme and are the best way to find out more information about these works.
- Delays are expected and motorists should plan journeys accordingly.
- Signage will be out in advance of the works starting, located at key points on the road.
