Pickmere Lane, Pickmere - Partial Arch Collapse
Due to a structural failure on the arch of the bridge over Waterless Brook, the B5391, Pickmere Lane will remain closed until further notice.
Under current Health and Safety legislation and for the safety of our workforce and members of the public, it is necessary for a road closure to be in place.
The work that is happening
Regular inspections showed that the bridge was worsening, with an increased risk of complete failure. Therefore, a controlled demolition of the bridge took place in April 2025, to prevent it falling into the water and causing a flood risk. United Utilities have installed a temporary diversion of the water main to maintain local water supply in the area.
We will be conducting geotechnical investigations to inform the detailed design for the replacement bridge.
The site is completely closed to all traffic, including vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders. Please do not move barriers to try and gain access to the site.
Diversion Route
There is a signed diversion in place and members of the travelling public, including cyclists are advised to follow this. See the full diversion route.
