A537 Chelford Road, Nether Alderley - damage to bridge

Following a road traffic collision the bridge parapet on the A537 Chelford Road has been damaged.

What is happening

We have installed temporary concrete barriers on the bridge, which have reduced the width of the carriageway to a single lane.  To manage traffic safely, temporary traffic signals have been installed and will remain in place until repairs can be carried out.

Works to repair the bridge will start on Monday 28 September 2026 and take 5 days to complete. 

Road closures and diversion routes

A road closure will be in place between 9am and 4pm, with a signed diversion route in operation.Road closures are needed to keep both the public and our workforce safe.

Bus companies are aware of the works. Services may run on different routes or timetables, so please check the operator’s website.

Waste collection services will not be affected.
