Who can become a parent governor?
All parents of registered pupils of a school are eligible to stand for the position of parent governor, unless they are an Elected Member of Cheshire East Council or are in paid employment at the school for more than 500 hours a year at the time of the election, or are generally ineligible to become a school governor.
Information for prospective parent governors
The Department for Education and Skills (now the Department for Education) has produced a range of materials to support schools in recruiting parent governors. View the information sheet (MS Word, 45KB).
Parent governor election process guidance
The Parent Governor election process documentation has been updated to reflect best practice. This can be found on the Model Policies, Documents and Guidance page.
Please note that following the process as detailed in the Guidance is mandatory for all community and controlled schools and also recommended for parent governor elections in all schools and academies.
